To continue the remarkable ancient traits of the Barbet character, his/her owner must be willing to devote time and affection to the dog's early and ongoing training. Each Barbet is an individual and must be understood in his/her own context. Many are friendly, All are loving, Many are great hunters, All enjoy swimming, Many are clowns, All prefer to be in the same room as their owners, Many are good at agility, All need daily exercise, Many are protectors and guardians, All are dedicated to their family. Remember, the Barbet needs BOTH mental AND physical exercise. They are a bright breed and need to be treated as such. Your efforts in loving, training and providing daily stimulations for them will be rewarded with kindness, love, loyalty and companionship.
